Why we should protect the environment? Why do we need to concern ourselves with the devastation that is occurring when the true problems will not happen in our lifetime? These are good questions to ask and while many people will think these questions are selfish, they make a good point.
Why should we care so much now? Think of your children and grandchildren. What type of environment will they be left with if we continue to consume natural resources at an unchecked rate? Our air quality is becoming poorer by the year and it will not be long before everyone will need respirators before they can go outside.
Without people to disrupt the environment, it would sustain itself nicely and the energy sources will renew themselves. But with our help, the environment is being polluted and depleted faster than it can regenerate itself. Non-renewable sources have become extinct and renewable sources are becoming so severely depleted that we will eventually lose those as well.
The human race as a whole is selfish and we feel that we are entitled to comforts and not have to bother with preservation of any kind. The negative effect of our selfishness is being felt now but will explode for the next generation unless we learn how to protect the environment now.
There are steps that we can take today to make certain that the environment is kept intact for our future generations. Recycling, reducing greenhouse gases and conserving energy are just a few things that we can do to protect the environment. I hope this has explained some reasons as to why we should protect the environment.
